Razing:About
From Razing-Wiki
Razing-Wiki is simply a way for me to put down my own notes, linkify them, and then share my thoughts about given citations with other people.
For a given area of study the core nuggets that I care to extract are different. For instance in computer science I'm interested in compact explanations of a given concept, terse example code, links to longer more robust examples, and side-effects. With History I'm more interested in actors, time-line, locations, and important details about the subject.
Since Razing-Wiki is a personal wiki I encourage people to put what they feel is important, dates that they think are relevant, etc in the discussion page. However modifying the articles directly other than to clean up is strongly discouraged. If I encounter too many spammers or people that don't follow the rules and push comes to shove I may end up locking every article on the site.
In general though the goal is here is to improve my understanding of a given subject and to do that requires having an easy way to recapture the essence of a book, article, subject. It just so happens I've found the best way to do that is to have aggregated searchable quotes, names, dates, locations, and so on.
After saying that I feel I should plug three fantastic Firefox plugins. Diigo, Clipmarks & Scrapbook. They're invaluable tools.
Furthermore, certain details I've picked up over the course of my research aren't available on Wikipedia or any other reference sites. For such articles I'll write them here first as stubs, but with the intention of improving them to a high enough quality to later post them on Wikipedia or the appropriate authoritative website.
NOTE: It's for this type of article that I'd greatly appreciate if other people would add as many details as possible. I'll add a category flag of PROMOTE_TO_WIKIPEDIA to such articles.
